Budapest Design Week 2014

Design Week Budapest 2014 logoThe 11th Budapest Design Week brings the best of Hungarian and international design to the Hungarian capital, offering a wide range of programs between 3rd and 12th October. The main sponsor and the patron of the festival is the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office, its leading professional partners are the Hungarian Design Council and Design Terminal, and it is organised by HIPAVILON Hungarian Intellectual Property Agency.

The slogan of Budapest Design Week 2014 is FIGURATIVE SENSE. The flagship programs of the festival explore the possibilities, the most recent results and current issues of design and technology through case studies, examples, presentations and thought-provoking discussions.

Following on the traditions of the past few years, Budapest Design Week welcomes the Netherlands as its Guest of Honour. With the support of the Royal Netherlands Embassy Jurgen Bey, world famous Dutch designer, founder of Studio Makkink Bey is invited to present at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design.

Everyday life, its context and workings, our daily habits and dilemmas are the core themes of contemporary Dutch design. An exhibition titled The intelligence of everyday life presents a cross section from recent years. The two-day Design Ecosystems – Conference on the development of creative industries will feature Dutch and Hungarian speakers exploring questions of service design and policy.

Many visitors’ favourite, Open Studios is organised this year as well, presenting the widest possible range of the Hungarian creative industry. The 2014 Design Tours take us to Herendi Porcelain Manufactory, Ajka Crystal and Zsolnay Porcelain Manufactory.

Similarly to previous years, the most prestigeous awards of the design profession (Hungarian Design Awards, Design Management Award) are also presented in the framework of the festival.

A novelty this year is that the programs of the acclaimed Central European Fashion Days, including the award ceremony of the GOMBOLD ÚJRA! competition, one of the most widely recognised events of Central European fashion designers.
