Visit of the Chief Executive of the UK Intellectual Property Office to the HPO

On 5th September 2007 Mr. Ian Fletcher, Chief Executive of the UK Intellectual Property Office, arrived in our Office for a bilateral presidential level meeting. dr. Miklós Bendzsel, President, dr. Mihály Ficsor, Vice-President for Legal Affairs, Mrs. Márta Posteiner-Toldi, Vice-President for Technical Affairs and Ms. Ágnes Kincses, International Officer participated in the discussions.

The agenda of the meeting included, besides a general introduction of the HPO, the current issues of the European Patent Organisation, issues concerning litigation and the community patent in the European Union, the forthcoming Assemblies of WIPO, and the problems of substantive patent law harmonisation. Besides, the participants exchanged views on the Gowers Review of Intellectual Property, which describes the current situation of IP protection in the United Kingdom, while having assertions valid in other countries, too. They also discussed the role of national offices in promoting IP awareness and innovation, as well as the development of bilateral relations between the two offices. The Patent Department and the Trademark, Model and Design Department presented their works themselves. The discussions were conducted in an open and constructive manner.
